Yuyang Chen (b.2001) is an artist based in London and Guangzhou, working primarily with installation and painting. Her practice delves into the restrictive structures, forms, and narratives inherited from her caregivers and early environments. As an artist, Chen feels compelled to return to those spaces—not to relive them passively, but to remember, reimagine, and challenge them. Chen seeks to resurrect the rules and frameworks of the past, bringing them into the present to question their meaning and hold them up to the light of now.

Yuyang Chen received her BA in Fine Art from the Chelsea College of Arts with first class honours in 2022. She is now studing MFA Fine Art in Goldsmiths, University of London. Yuyang’s work has shortlisted in 2024 The Ingram Prize and featured in several exhibitions including the RWA 171 Annual Open Exhibition and the 2024 Bow Open x Lindsey Mendick’s A Personal Treasure. In 2023, she was a Special Prize Winner in the 4th Global Talent Art Prize.
